Calculations

When you start a calculation, the EBSILON^®Professional calculation kernel uses the topology information and the specification values of the components to set up a (generally non-linear) system of equations, which is solved iteratively using a Newton-like linearization and a matrix solution. During the iteration process, controllers are active to achieve specified scheduled values. The calculation ends, when either

• the changes during the last iteration step are smaller than the specified limit or
• the maximum number of iterations is reached.

 

There are two modes of calculation:

• Simulation (the normal one), and
• Validation.

 

This chapter describes how to

• set options to affect simulation and validation calculations,
• start a simulation,
• start a validation,
• use the error analysis,
• use the convergence diagrams.

 

You can also start calculations from the EbsScript.

Each calculation

• uses data of exactly one profile as input data, and
• outputs any results to this profile only.

 

This profile is

• the active profilefor calculations started interactively, or determined by EbsScript for calculations started by EbsScript.

 

Profiles help you to manage several variations of one cycle within one document. This is especially useful for handling

• the design and the off-design calculations, and
• the property data variations.

 

Results can be viewed by using

• Print and Display Options (Tool tips)
• Property window of components and pipelines
• The Excel workbook
• Excel sheets defined by the user and
• Excel Diagrams.

 

Validation results can be viewed using the Excel validation report file.
