To create a new cycle i.e. a new document, use the

    • menu command "FileàNew", or
    •  the icon "New" in the tool bar.

The new cycle is named as "Modellx", where x is a counter. You can specify another name, when you save the cycle.

To open an existing document, use the

    • menu command "FileàOpen", or
    •  the icon "Open" in the tool bar.

You get a standard file opening dialog where you can select an ".ebs"-file for any directory that is accessible on your machine or in your network. It is possible to open
read-only files as well. Of course, if you modify such a cycle, you have to save it under a different name.

Opening models by means of Copy/Paste:

Ebsilon models can now be opened via the clipboard by means of Copy/Paste. Files from the Windows Explorer and e-mail attachments in particular can now be
opened across computers (remote desktop session).

To save a document, use the

    • menu command "FileàSave", or
    • the menu command "FileàSave As", or
    •  the icon "Save" in the tool bar.

To close a document, use the

    • menu command "FileàClose", or
    •  the icon "Close" in the top right corner of the window of the document.

To create an ebx file (data of the EBSILON®Professional drawing and the properties of the corresponding Excel sheet in one file), use the command "FileàExportàebx-Format"
    from the menu bar.

To load an ebx-file, use the standard "Open" dialog and set file type to ".ebx" in this dialog.

Data sets or macros created with EBSILON 7 cannot be imported any more. Should you wish to continue using these, you can get them converted from Steag Energy Services.

It is not possible to export the EBSILON®Professional files in the EBSILON 7 format.

    Ebsilon template files:

Ebsilon template files serve to provide templates for models or parts of models, particularly for using connectors. For this, the user can open the template file and optionally

    • use this file as the basis for their model and continue working in it. When saving, the “Save As” dialog will automatically appear so that the user will have to select another storage location, and overwriting the template is prevented
    • take over parts of the template file (e.g. macros) into their own working file via the clipboard by means of Copy/Paste.

It is also possible to save a normal Ebsilon file as a template file and thus protect it from unintended modification.

Ebsilon template files have the extension “.ebt“ in the file name.

Ebsilon template files only differ from “normal“ Ebsilon models in the extension of the file name (i.e. they can also be converted into one another by renaming in the Windows Explorer). Ebsilon template files are entirely normal Ebsilon models. When trying to (normally) save a template file, the “Save As” dialog will appear and prevent overwriting the template. To save a model as a template file please select the menu item “FileàSave As Template”.
